I have 5 small desktop computers available for students available on a first come basis essentially for free (see below).

These are Compaq Deskpro EN models which are small footprint machines. They are licensed to run windows 98 second edition but will also run Ubuntu a very solid community version of Linux which comes with plenty of applications including Open Office.

The computers would be ideal for students needing to prepare documents for school. They have network cards so could be put on a home network or internet but you would need a firewall and virus protection.

I can provide a keyboard and mouse or track ball with each unit but do not have monitors for them all.

For free I will provide a blank hard disk or load Ubuntu on the computer after testing all the hardware.

For $20 I will test the disk and memory, install Windows98 Second edition, USB drivers, Open Office, Mozilla, and the free version of Zonealarm firewall.

Either option above will put you in business but the windows version requires a little more work.

I will be happy to answer some questions to get you started but am not offering ongoing free support.
