Using "categories" to limit viewing audience

Tags:

If you do any posting outside of organic groups (class groups) of private forums. You should give a moment of thought to whether you should limit the audience. For example if the story mentions a person by name or if the topic is really only of interest to teachers or parents.

The City Gates Website has a very good feature to help select your audience.  When you post anything, you normally see a category box which contains a privacy list.  The default is none so of you are posting in a public forum or on the front page, outsiders may see what you post which in many cases is exactly what we want. The privacy list is a multiselect box. To use it, you hold down the control key (Ctrl) and click on the roles you wish to have access.  Once you have submitted it, only those members (roles) will be able to see the item.

If you want an item to be seen by anyone who has a CGA website account, click all the boxes except for NONE.

You can test how this works by setting your privacy options, submitting the article and then logging out. If you can no longer see the content, you did it.

Try it with this message. While it is posted in a public support forum, you will not be able to see it when you log out.
